Occupational Therapy

Paediatric occupational therapy focuses on helping children develop the skills necessary to engage in everyday activities to the best of their abilities. These activities, or “occupations,” encompass a wide range of tasks, from self-care routines to academic and leisure activities.

Here at Be in Bloom, we create personalised programmes for you and your child. We prioritise a parent-centred approach, partnering closely with parents/caregivers and educators every step of the way. Through a consultation and initial assessment, we can pinpoint the ideal path for your child’s development.

Our Therapists are fully qualified and licensed professionals.

01

Consultation

Arrange a 10-15 minute informal phone consultation with an Occupational Therapist at Be in Bloom. In this session, you can discuss any concerns you have about your child’s motor and/or sensory skills, and receive expert advice on the best course for your child’s development.

Assessment

Initial assessments usually last around 90 minutes, which includes observing and assessing your child, as well as discussing their case history with you. These sessions take place in the comfort of your home. An additional 30 minutes is needed after the appointment to create a written summary of the session. If you need a more detailed report afterward, this can be discussed and arranged during your 15-minute consultation (starting price £70).

Therapy

Therapy sessions take place at home, where your child can feel comfortable and regulated. They typically run for around 45 minutes, though the duration may vary depending on your child’s needs. The fee covers a full hour, which includes valuable time for note taking, providing feedback and exchanging information with parents/caregivers, and/or education staff after the session.

Our Occupational Therapists are dedicated to supporting your child’s growth and helping them bloom in the following areas:

Fine Motor Skills

These skills involve the precise movements of the hands and fingers and are vital for tasks such as writing, drawing, and using tools.

Sensory Processing

Many children struggle with processing sensory information, which can impact their ability to focus, regulate emotions, and engage in daily tasks.

Gross Motor Skills

Gross motor skills involve the coordination of large muscle groups and are essential for activities like running, jumping, and playing sports.

Self Care Skills

Occupational therapists support children in developing independence in activities such as dressing, grooming, and feeding themselves.

Our therapists employ various approaches and interventions to address each child’s unique needs, including:

Play-based Interventions

Play is integral to childhood development, and our therapists use play-based activities to engage children while targeting specific skills.

Sensory Integration Activities

For children with sensory processing difficulties, sensory integration therapy can help them learn to process and respond to sensory information more effectively.

Educator Involvement

We believe in working closely with educators to provide support and guidance on how to enhance the child’s development and meet the child’s individual needs within their educational setting.

Adaptive Equipment

In some cases, adaptive equipment may be recommended to support children in participating in daily activities more independently.

Parental Involvement

We believe in working closely with parents and caregivers to provide support and guidance for their child’s development both at home and in other environments.
